Description
Antique Indian doors showcasing the soulful craftsmanship of traditional subcontinental architecture, likely dating to the late 19th to early 20th century. Constructed from solid wood and reinforced with hand-forged iron studs and straps, the doors feature a softly arched top panel and a beautifully weathered turquoise patina. The oxidized paint layer worn over decades reveals warm undertones of the original wood beneath. Pieces like this were typically salvaged from havelis where such doors served as both protective entryways and symbolic thresholds, often marking the transition from public to private space. In Indian architectural tradition, doors were far more than utilitarian; they carried cultural and spiritual significance, acting as guardians of the home and often adorned with metalwork for strength and status. Today, their scale and presence make them exceptional statement pieces which an be used architecturally, as a dramatic wall installation, or repurposed as functional sliding or hinged doors by your personal contractor. Two posts at top are 2" in height, which can be removed.
