Old Baule rabbit mask from Ivory Coast. This piece is a beautifully sculptural example of West African tribal artistry, hand-carved from wood with an exceptional aged surface and rich brown patina developed through many years of handling and use. Features elongated upright ears, a softly rounded facial plane, pierced triangular eyes, and a calm, meditative expression characteristic of Baule carving traditions. Traditionally used in ceremonial dances and spirit performances, rabbit-form masks symbolized intelligence, alertness, fertility, as well as a connection to the spiritual world. The surface shows authentic age wear, pigment loss, and natural cracking consistent with long-term ritual handling, giving the piece remarkable depth and presence.
