Description
Original antique carved wood property post from the Bongo people of South Sudan. Early notation found these abstract pole-like figures marking the grave site of honored male elite warriors and chiefs. The figures often have ridged necks with each notation indicating an enemy or large animal killed. Erected in the ground during a ceremony, these figures are said to protect against sorcerer spells. Circa early 1900's.
