Important Ikom monolith standing engraved stone figure from Cross River state of Nigeria. Thought to be over 2000 years old. Known as Akwasnshi or Atal among local Ejagham people of Cross River, the monoliths can be found in meeting places of elders positioned in circles facing each other. They share common shape and features but each is unique in design execution and thought to display a complex code of ancient writing with communication and graphic system. Some scholars make a compelling case that these stones are much older and are related to astronomical activities rather than ancestor veneration. Much like Stone Henge, may have been in England.
