Original Luba Kifwebe mask from Democratic Republic of Congo. Striking striated face markings with elongated thin nose with red, black, and white worn pigments. These masks were used in initiations and played a role in establishing order in tribal society. In performance, this mask would have been complemented by a costume ensemble comprising woven textiles, animal pelts, and plant fibers, which covered the dancer’s body below. Beautiful signs of age and use. Great condition with minor cracks.
