Mossi Doll on Stand

Product sku AFR331AB301C

Original abstract Mossi doll. Hand carved wood Yariga Biiga female figure from Burkina Faso 1940’s. These traditional doll figures were used by children to prepare and care for a baby. These statues are passed on from mother to daughter and the large breasts are a symbol of motherhood. The head is a stylization of the gyonfo, a female forward long hairstyle sometimes thought to resemble an elephant trunk. Beautiful attractive highly stylized figure with rich patina, signs of age and use. Mounted on a removable iron display stand.
