Striking sculptural antique Benin bronze leopard head finial cast in the traditional lost-wax technique associated with the historic Kingdom of Benin (present-day Nigeria). These forms reflect the enduring visual language of Benin court art, where the leopard, regarded as the most powerful and elusive creature of the forest, served as a potent symbol of royal authority and the divine power of the Oba (king). The stylized heads, richly textured with hand-worked surface patterning and expressive features are surmounted by finely modeled leopards, reinforcing themes of vigilance and dominion.
