Description
Antique Dinka cattle-camp property post from South Sudan. Hand-carved from a single length of hardwood and now presented as a sculptural object on a custom iron stand. Traditionally used within pastoral compounds, these posts served both functional and symbolic roles - marking space within cattle enclosures and symbolizing spiritual presence tied to ancestry, protection, and the cultural centrality of cattle in Dinka life. The elongated, rhythmic carving and minimally rendered head reflect a deeply restrained aesthetic, emphasizing continuity, endurance, and identity. Rich surface wear, natural checking, and a softened patina speak to decades of exposure and use, giving the piece a profound sense of history.
