Old rare carved wood Songye female figure from Democratic Republic of Congo, also referred to as a "Power Figure." Power figures were created to house the benevolent spirits of ancestors to aid with fertility, harvest, health and protection from evil forces. These figures were created by the Nganga, magical practitioners of the Songye people. The metal studs on the figure were believed to enhance the power and influence of the figure. Rich with patina from from age and use. Perfect for decorative display and collecting.
